Treatments / Laser and light

Laser hair removal, River Heights, Winnipeg

A laser heats the hair at the root so it grows back finer and fewer, until most of it stops. It works on dark hair, not on white, grey or red. We use 755 nm for lighter skin and 1064 nm for deeper skin tones, and do a patch test first. Expect six to eight sessions.

A good fit if

  • Dark hair you’re tired of shaving or waxing
  • Any skin tone (we choose the wavelength for yours)
  • You can avoid tanning during the series

Not for you if

  • White, grey, red or very fine blonde hair (the laser can’t see it)
  • A fresh tan or self-tanner in the last two weeks
  • Pregnant, or on medication that makes skin sun-sensitive (we’ll check)

Planning around a date?

  • 26+ weeks before: Time for most of the series. Six sessions, six weeks apart, fits.
  • 10 to 25 weeks before: You’ll be a few sessions in: noticeably less hair, not done.
  • Less than 10 weeks: One session at most before your date. Start now anyway if it’s a long-term plan.

How it goes

  1. Consult and patch testMai checks your skin and hair, picks the wavelength, and tests a small spot. Free.
  2. Written planAreas, sessions, the per-session price and the package price, on paper.
  3. SessionsShave the day before. Each session is 10 to 50 minutes, with a cooling tip on the laser.
  4. Between sessionsShave only (no waxing or plucking), daily sunscreen, and come back when the hair grows in.

Individual results may vary. A consultation comes first, and the plan you leave with is the price you pay. Prices in Canadian dollars, plus applicable taxes. Changes are free with 48 hours’ notice; later than that, or a missed visit, is $50. New laser and IPL clients start October to May.

Is it permanent?
The aim is a large, lasting reduction after the series, with the odd top-up. We don’t promise every hair is gone, because hormones and hair colour change the result.
Why only October to May?
Laser and tanned skin don’t mix: the laser reads the tan as a target. Starting in fall means you’re through most of the series before summer.
Does it work on darker skin?
Yes. The 1064 nm wavelength goes deeper and passes the skin’s own pigment, which is why we have both. The patch test confirms it.
Does it hurt?
A snap like an elastic band, with a cold tip on the skin. Underarms and bikini are the sharpest, legs are easy.
