Treatments / Laser and light

IPL photofacial, River Heights, Winnipeg

Broad-spectrum light that targets brown sun spots and small red vessels. Spots darken and flake off over a week; redness fades over the series. It’s for lighter skin tones only, and only on untanned skin, which is why it runs October to May.

With Mai Nguyen, medical aesthetician and laser technician

A good fit if

  • Sun spots, freckling or redness on lighter skin
  • You can stay out of the sun during the series
  • You’d rather not have downtime beyond a few darker spots

Not for you if

  • Deeper skin tones (we’ll suggest a peel instead)
  • A tan, or a sun holiday booked during the series
  • Melasma (light can make it worse; we’ll talk about other options)

Tamarack plan sheet · IPL photofacial
Is IPL a laser?
No. A laser is one wavelength; IPL is a filtered flash of many. It treats brown and red at once, which suits sun damage.
Can I wear makeup afterwards?
The next day. The darkened spots can be covered, just don’t scrub them off.
Will it work on melasma?
We don’t use IPL on melasma: heat can make it darker. A peel series is the safer start.
